Town
of Carolina Beach Pet Rules:
All dogs are required to be on a leash at all times. Dogs are allowed on
the beach from November 1st to February 28th. You must have a plastic or
paper container that can be used to clean up and contain dog waste until
it can be disposed of in an appropriate container. This container must be
on your person at all times, and must be produced and shown, upon request,
to anyone authorized to enforce this ordinance.
Freeman
Park:
The
north end of Pleasure Island is dog-friendly. You can drive on the beach in
a four-wheel drive vehicle. There is a $20 daily entry fee or a $60
yearly fee to drive on the beach. You can also find street parking near
the entrance and walk in for free. Dogs are required to be on a leash from
March 1st to Oct. 31. The rest of the year dogs are allowed off leash, but
they must remain under voice command and the owner must be within a
reasonable distance.
[NOTE: May, 2010: The town is
discussing raising the fee for a yearly pass to $100. ]

Fort
Fisher State Recreation Area:
There is another dog-friendly beach at the south end of Pleasure Island at
Ft. Fisher. Dogs on leashes are allowed on the beach year round. There is
convenient parking near the beach, or you can get a permit to drive a
four-wheel vehicle on the beach: $10 for a day, or $40 for the year.

Beach Lake Park:
This park is within easy walking distance of Beach Breeze. Walk
north on Carolina Beach Avenue, go left on Lake Avenue, cross South Lake
Park Boulevard, and you are at Lake Park. It is an 11 acre lake with a
walking trail around it.
Carolina
Beach Dog Park:
This fenced in, off-leash dog park is located inside of Mike Chappell Park
off Dow Road. From Beach Breeze, go left from the front porch, take a left on Spartanburg Rd. Go about
7 blocks, turn right and go one block on S. 7th St, left on Sumter Ave,
right on S. 8th St. The parking area is on your left. The facility provides pets with a drinking
area. The dog park has no shade.
There is a nice playground here.
Carolina
Beach State Park:
You and your dog can enjoy miles of trails in this is 761 acre park. Dogs
must be on a leash (no more than 6 feet) and are not allowed in any park
buildings or swimming areas. Carolina Beach State Park is at the north end
of the island along the Intra-Coastal Waterway. Drive through town on Lake
Park Blvd., turn left onto Dow Rd, right onto State Park Rd.
Kure Beach Dog Park:
Joe Eakes Park is located on K Avenue going west, not far south from Beach
Breeze. It is across the street from the Kure Beach Police Department.
You’ll find a fenced-in area behind the playground and the tennis
courts. This is the Gurney Hood Dog "Bark," made especially for
you and your pooch pal to run free.
